Disney’s Tsum Tsum Kingdom is a ground breaking live-action/CGI series I helped develop that follows the little plushes’ adventures in a nature-documentary style. It has gone on to win over half a dozen awards including best animated series. The series has gained more than 30 millions views and spun off it’s own children’s book series from Disney Consumer Products.

My team and I have to go frame by frame throughout the entire episode and erase the rods. It can be a very time-consuming process, but when the job is complete, we are able to give the illusion that the Tsum Tsum are alive and moving all on their own. The facial animations are done by motion tracking the characters’ eyes and head and then manipulating those featuring in post production. It’s important to make the face animation cartoony, but not too over the top. If the animation is exaggerated, the character stops looking like a real puppet and resembles a cartoon and we like to keep the show grounded in reality.
Watch and find out!
